Jade
Cut to be handled, not only looked at.
Nephrite, worked for millennia
Nephrite jade is tougher than any faceted gem we sell — not harder, but far harder to break, which is why it has been carved rather than faceted for thousands of years. Pakistani nephrite runs from a soft spinach green through to a deep, almost black olive. We cut it as cabochons and bangles, and we grade it on translucency and on how evenly the colour sits.
Living with it. Practically unbreakable in normal wear, but it dislikes heat and harsh detergents. Warm soapy water, and it will outlive everyone.
